Three pure sequences instead of one is the whole difference. In 13-card play one natural run unlocks the declaration and everything else can lean on jokers. Here you need three before jokers help at all.
What three decks make possible
- Tunnela — three identical cards, same rank and suit. Impossible with two decks.
- Dublee — two identical cards, same rank and suit.
- Marriage — the combination that gives the format its other name. Scoring for it varies by table, so agree it before the deal.
Why declaring takes longer
Three pure sequences across 21 cards means at least nine cards locked into natural runs before anything else counts. With 48 ten-point cards across the three decks, a face-card-heavy hand is expensive long before the round ends — the same logic as Rummy scoring, at a larger scale.
