Pick a side. Two cards are dealt. Higher rank wins.

The ace is the lowest card and the king the highest. Matching ranks are a tie and nobody wins.

The four steps

  1. Pick a side — Dragon or Tiger, before anything is dealt. This is the only decision you make.
  2. Two cards are dealt face up, one to each side, from a shuffled 52-card deck.
  3. Compare the ranks. Higher wins, ace low, king high, suits ignored.
  4. Resolve. Matching ranks are a tie.

There is no step five. No drawing, no second round of cards, no decisions after the deal begins.

The one thing to learn first

The reversed card order. Everything else about this game is obvious within one round, but an ace losing to a two contradicts what Teen Patti and Rummy have taught most players.

Learn the order, and there is genuinely nothing else to know.

There is no strategy, and that is the point

Both cards are dealt face up with nothing to decide in between. Once the deck is shuffled, every round's outcome is already fixed.

This makes Dragon Tiger a game to fill a gap rather than a game to get better at. If you want one where your decisions change the result, Call Break and Indian Rummy are the ones to read next.

Common questions

What are the steps in a Dragon Tiger round?

Pick a side before the deal, watch one card go to each side face up, compare the ranks with the ace lowest and king highest, and treat matching ranks as a tie.

How many cards does a Dragon Tiger round use?

Two, one to each side, both face up. There is no drawing and no second round of cards, which is why a round finishes in seconds.

How long does a round of Dragon Tiger take?

Seconds. Two cards are turned over and the round is finished, which makes it the shortest card game commonly played in India.

Can you influence a Dragon Tiger round once it starts?

No. Both cards are dealt face up with nothing to decide in between, so no action taken after the deal can change the result.

How many players can play Dragon Tiger?

Any number can back a side, because players are not competing against each other. Everyone is simply choosing between the same two outcomes on the same deal.

What deck is used for Dragon Tiger?

A standard 52-card deck with the jokers removed. Some tables shuffle several decks together, which changes the tie probability very slightly but not the structure of the game.
