Rummy formats
Same thirteen cards, same rules, three completely different games — because what changes is how long you have to survive.
Points is one deal, settled immediately. Pool runs until players cross 101 or 201 points and are knocked out. Deals runs for a fixed number of hands and the most chips wins.
The card rules are identical in all three. Only the scoring and the ending condition change.

Points Rummy
The winner declares and scores zero. Everyone else counts the cards left in their hand, capped at eighty. That is the whole format.
Because there is no second chance, the correct play changes. Dropping early is far more attractive here than in a pool game — there is no future deal in which to make the points back, so a bad hand should be abandoned rather than fought.
Pool Rummy
Points accumulate across deals until a player crosses the threshold and is out. The last player remaining wins the whole pool.
The threshold changes the game more than it looks. At 101, a single maximum hand of eighty leaves you with twenty-one points of room — effectively one mistake and you are finished. At 201 you can absorb two bad deals and still play a normal third.
This is why 201 rewards patience and 101 rewards aggression. In a 101 pool, hanging on through a mediocre hand is usually the losing choice.
Deals Rummy
Everyone starts with an equal chip stack and a fixed number of deals is agreed — commonly two, three or six. After each deal, chips move from the losers to the winner in proportion to the points they were caught with.
The fixed length changes how the last deal is played. Going into the final hand behind, a cautious drop guarantees you finish behind. This is the one format where a deliberately risky declaration can be correct.
Which one to learn on
Points Rummy, because feedback is immediate. You declare, you see the result, you deal again. Pool formats stretch the gap between a mistake and its consequence across several deals, which makes it harder to work out which decision actually cost you.

What is Points Rummy?
A single deal settled immediately — compared against the other Rummy formats here. The winner scores zero and every other player is counted on the points left in their hand. It is the shortest format and finishes in a few minutes.
What is Pool Rummy?
A series of deals in which points accumulate. See Points, Pool and Deals Rummy compared. Players are eliminated when they cross a fixed total, normally 101 or 201, and the last player standing wins.
What is Deals Rummy?
A fixed number of deals agreed at the start. Chips are distributed at the beginning, transferred after each deal based on points, and whoever holds the most at the end wins.
Which Rummy format is shortest?
Points Rummy. It is one deal, settled on the spot. Pool 201 is the longest, since players have to accumulate more than two hundred points before anyone is eliminated.
What is the difference between Pool 101 and Pool 201?
The elimination threshold. Pool 101 knocks a player out at 101 points and Pool 201 at 201, which roughly doubles the length of the game and gives more room to recover from a bad deal.
Do the card rules change between Rummy formats?
No. Thirteen cards, two sequences with at least one pure, and sets from different suits apply identically in all three. Only the scoring and the ending condition change.
