Rules that are actually disputed
Every rules site tells you what the rule is. Almost none tell you that the rule is contested — so we counted.
Indian card games have no governing body. Rules travelled by being taught at tables, so versions diverged, and every site that later wrote them down recorded whichever version it knew.
Where sources conflict, we count them and say so rather than picking one and presenting it as settled.
Can a wild joker sit in a pure sequence?
We checked eight sites that publish Indian Rummy rules. Five say a pure sequence may contain no joker under any circumstances. Three say a wild joker counts as natural when it sits in its own suit and its own position.

Which direction does Call Break go?
Pagat documents the traditional game as anticlockwise, with the deal rotating right, and sources from Nepal and parts of India confirm it is still played that way.
Most phone apps deal clockwise. It changes nothing about strategy, but it changes who sits after whom — and the player before you is the one whose call you have already heard. See the Call Break rules.
Is zero a legal call?
Some circles ban it outright. Others require the dealer to call a minimum. Penalty rules for missing a call vary too — losing the full value of the call is standard, but not universal.
Which Andar Bahar side is dealt to first?
The colour of the centre card decides, and sources agree on that. Where they differ is which colour sends the first card to which side.
The version we document — black to Andar, red to Bahar — is the one Pagat records. Some regional versions reverse it, and because the side dealt to first has a small edge, this one actually changes the odds. See the Andar Bahar rules.
What to do about it
Settle these before the first deal, not during. Naming three or four variable rules aloud takes thirty seconds. Discovering mid-round that the table disagrees costs the round and usually the mood.

Which rule causes the most arguments?
The joker-in-a-pure-sequence question, by a wide margin. It surfaces at the moment someone declares, which is the worst possible time to discover the table disagrees.
How do you settle a rules dispute at the table?
Before the first deal, not during. Name the three or four rules that vary, agree each one aloud, and the round plays out without anyone feeling cheated.
