Blackjack card values
Twelve of the thirteen ranks have one fixed value. The thirteenth is the whole game.
Number cards are worth face value. Jack, queen and king are worth ten each. The ace is worth eleven, unless that would push you past 21, in which case it becomes one.
Suits are ignored completely.

Why sixteen ten-value cards changes everything
Nearly a third of the deck is worth ten. That single fact drives most of what happens at a Blackjack table.
It is why a hand of twelve is uncomfortable — the most likely single card you can draw takes you to twenty-two. It is why the dealer showing a six is considered weak, since the most likely outcome is a sixteen that must then draw again. And it is why blackjack itself — an ace plus a ten-value card — happens as often as it does, at roughly one hand in twenty-one.
The ace is not a choice
People often describe the ace as being "worth one or eleven, whichever you prefer". That is not quite right. You never decide. The value is determined automatically by whichever reading keeps you at or below 21.
Hold an ace and a six and you are on seventeen, not seven. Draw a ten and you are on seventeen again — the ace silently dropped to one. There is no moment at which you announce which value you are using.
Common questions
How much is a king worth in Blackjack?
Ten. Every face card - jack, queen and king - is worth ten, the same as a ten card. There are sixteen ten-value cards in a 52-card deck.
Is an ace 1 or 11 in Blackjack?
Both, depending on the hand. It counts as eleven unless that would take your total past 21, in which case it counts as one. You never choose - the value follows automatically.
Do suits matter in Blackjack?
No. Only the numeric total matters. The ten of spades and the ten of hearts are identical for scoring purposes.
How many ten-value cards are in a Blackjack deck?
Sixteen: four tens, four jacks, four queens and four kings. That is roughly 31 percent of the deck, which is why so many hands land on totals near twenty.
What is a queen worth in Blackjack?
Ten, the same as a jack, king or ten — the full table is on Blackjack card values. All four are interchangeable for scoring purposes.
How many aces are in a Blackjack deck?
Four in a single 52-card deck, one per suit. That is 7.7 percent of the deck, which is roughly how often a blackjack becomes possible on the deal.
Do face cards have different values in Blackjack?
No. Jack, queen and king are all worth ten, with no distinction between them. Only the ace behaves differently.
