The second-strongest hand in the game, and the one whose ordering almost everybody gets wrong.

Teen Patti ace rules, and what makes a valid sequence

The ace does two jobs, which is the whole source of the confusion.

A-2-3 is the highest run. A-K-Q is second. Both are valid — the ace works at either end. What it cannot do is sit in the middle: K-A-2 is not a teen patti valid sequence, because the run has to be consecutive and the ace does not bridge king and two.

The same ace rule applies in Rummy pure sequences, where Q-K-A is valid and K-A-2 is not.

The order, top to bottom

This ordering is not a house rule. It is how the game is documented at Pagat, and most sites that say otherwise are simply wrong.

The ace works at both ends, but does not wrap

A-2-3 is valid. A-K-Q is valid. 2-A-K is not.

The ace can sit at the bottom of a run or at the top, but a sequence cannot pass through it. K-A-2 is three cards, not a run.

Rarer than a trail, but ranked below it

There are 48 possible pure sequences — twelve runs in four suits — against 52 possible trails.

So a pure sequence is marginally rarer, yet ranks second. That looks like an inconsistency and is worth understanding: the difference is four hands out of 22,100, which is well inside the range where convention rather than arithmetic settles the order. Every other step in the hand ranking follows rarity exactly.

Pure against plain

Fifteen times more common once the suit requirement is dropped, which is exactly why the pure version ranks two places higher.
