Comparison
Rummy vs Teen Patti
India's two most played card games, and they are almost opposites — one is about building a hand, the other about pricing one.
Rummy is a melding game. You draw and discard across many turns to build sequences and sets. The hand you finish with is almost nothing like the one you were dealt.
Teen Patti is a vying game. You get three cards once, and the entire round is about how much you are willing to bet on them.

Thirteen cards changes everything
Every other difference on that table follows from hand size.
Thirteen cards need organising, which means turns. Turns mean drawing and discarding, which means the hand improves — and that means a bad opening hand is recoverable. In Rummy, being dealt badly is a slow start, not a loss.
Three cards need no organising. There is nothing to do with them except decide how much they are worth. A bad Teen Patti hand stays bad, and your only lever is how much you are prepared to spend pretending otherwise.
Where the skill sits
In Rummy the skill is in card selection: which draw pile to take from, which card to let go, when to abandon a run that is not completing. Those choices compound over a round, and a Rummy declaration that fails the four conditions costs you everything regardless of how well you played.
In Teen Patti the skill is entirely in the betting. Blind or seen in Teen Patti, when to chaal, when to pack, whether to request a sideshow. You cannot improve your cards, only your reading of everyone else's.
Which one to learn first
Teen Patti, if you want to be playing within five minutes. Six hand rankings and a betting round is the whole game.
Rummy, if you want a game that rewards getting better at it. The gap between a beginner and an experienced player is much wider in Rummy, because there are far more decisions in which that experience can show.
Common questions
Which is better, Rummy or Teen Patti?
They suit different situations. Teen Patti rounds finish in a few minutes and need no sustained attention. Rummy rewards patience and gives you something to do on every turn.
Which has more skill, Rummy or Teen Patti?
Indian Rummy, by a clear margin. You make a decision on every turn about what to draw and what to discard, and those decisions accumulate. Teen Patti gives you fewer decisions on a hand you cannot change.
How many cards do you get in Rummy compared to Teen Patti?
Thirteen in Indian Rummy against three in Teen Patti. That single difference produces almost every other difference between the two games.
Can you improve your hand in Teen Patti?
No. The three cards you are dealt are the three you play. In Rummy you draw and discard on every turn, so the hand changes constantly.
Which game is faster, Rummy or Teen Patti?
Teen Patti. A round takes two to five minutes; a Rummy round takes five to fifteen because every player is drawing and discarding until someone declares.
