Three players must win three, two and five tricks. Thirty cards are dealt ten each, so exactly ten tricks are played — and 3 + 2 + 5 is ten.

The arithmetic is the whole design. Ten tricks split three ways with targets that sum to ten means every trick matters to somebody, and no hand can end with slack in it.

Why the targets rotate

The five-trick target is much harder than the two, so the three positions rotate hand by hand. Over three hands each player has carried each target once, which is what makes the scoring fair.

That reading is the same idea as five-round matches in Call Break, where repetition is what removes the luck of one deal.

How it compares to the other trick games here

Call Break gives four players thirteen cards and lets each name their own target. 3 2 5 fixes the targets in advance and rotates them instead, which removes bidding from the game entirely.

The result is shorter and sharper: no bid to judge, only the hand to play.
